A good TV stand does two jobs at once. It holds the screen at the right height and it gives the rest of the room somewhere to rest its eyes. We picked seven from the current collection that handle both, from a compact 145cm cabinet to a full two-metre elm console. Here's what each one is built from.

Tromso TV Stand
A textured stone top sits in a dark wood frame with soft grey drawer fronts, and a recessed plinth base lifts the whole thing off the floor. It reads heavier than it is thanks to the stone, but the recessed base keeps it from feeling like a block. Made to order, and available in alternative finishes on request.
Oxford TV Cabinet
Mid-century in shape without leaning on it too hard. Solid sheesham wood in a natural finish gives it warmth and visible grain, and slim flared legs keep a fairly deep cabinet feeling light in a room. Storage is split between open shelves and closed doors, so the remote pile can stay hidden while the record player stays out.
Machala Media Cabinet
Rustic pinewood in a warm blonde finish, with gently curved edges and a blocked base. Four magnetic-catch doors open to four compartments with adjustable shelving, and there are cable cut-outs built into each one. The back is fully finished, so it holds up if you're floating it in the middle of a room instead of pushing it against a wall.

Kristiansand TV Stand
A fluted white cabinet crowned with a slab of natural marble and lifted on slim brass blade legs. The vertical ribbing across the doors gives a long, low console some real texture instead of a flat front, and the brass legs keep 220cm of cabinet from looking heavy. Nørresundby TV Stand
Largest in the Collection
Built like a sideboard that happens to anchor a screen. In solid elm at a full two metres wide, it's the piece a living room gets built around rather than fitted in afterward. The 60cm height puts a large screen at the right level from a standard sofa, and 43cm of depth means real storage for everything a media setup collects.
Echelon Metallic Entertainment Center
A curved, low silhouette finished in a multi-layered metallic lacquer, set on a powder-coated stainless steel base. At 240cm wide and just 48cm tall, it stays close to the floor and lets the curve do the talking. Interior storage is generous enough to handle a full media setup without the cabinet ever looking crowded.
Modera Marble Top Console
The Splurge
A high-gloss lacquered body topped with a slab of natural Oreo Grey marble, its veining doing most of the visual work.
